The Miracle Miler
Spring 2005, Volume 2, Number 1
May 2005
Over the last 35 years, I have seen many changes on the Miracle Mile. When I came to Stockton in 1967, "The Mile" was dominated by both men's and women's ready-to-wear clothing stores. Names like, "The Knobby," "Bravo-McKeegan," " John Falls," etc., dotted the landscape. These, along with specialty stores like "Cavagnaro's Shoe Repair, " "Avenue Florists," and "Miracle Music," made the The Miracle Mile a destination shopping are that competed successfully with Lincoln Center adn Webertown Mall that were developing in North Stockton.
Today these names are gone-- replaced by new businesses offering new products and services to the Stockton community. John Falls is now CoCoRo, Miracle Music is now Architectural Amenities, Bravo McKeegan is Southern Exposure, Cavagnaro's is Pine Street Interiors, The Knobby is Vaneesa's Bridal and Avenue Florist is Flashbacks Photography.
However, many of the long term businesses remain. Names like Borelli Jewelers, Miracle Mile Cleaners, and See's Candies continue to be a major draw for The Miracle Mile. These estblished businesses along with the "newcomers" of the last fifty years add stablility to Stockton's historic shopping district.
