New Security Patrol on the Miracle Mile
August 27, 2006
Dear MMIA Members and Associates:
Safety and security has become a tremendous concern with all of us on the Mile. As you are already aware, the MMIA Board of Directors formed a Community Safety Committee charged with evaluating and implementing a plan to provide for a safer environment within our area. So far, the Committee has done the following:
- We conducted a lighting assessment along Pacific Avenue including side streets and all parking areas. This included both public & private areas and was done at the recommendation of a private security consultant.
- Met with the Stockton Police Department regarding “Hot spots” and also toured their “TASC” security center which monitors all of the City street cameras.
- With the help of Council Member Clem Lee, we received two additional City-owned cameras to monitor the entire Miracle Mile for a total of three cameras.
- We are in the process of relocating the MMIA-owned security cameras to monitor side streets and parking lots that were identified as potential “Hot spots.”
Within the past several months, we’ve also seen an alarming number of incidents occur including vandalism (graffiti and property damage), robbery, burglary, loitering and assault.
As of August 22, 2006, the MMIA Board contracted with Delta Hawkeye Security for private patrol services. Their primary function is to provide a high visibility patrol presence while further ensuring safety along the Mile.
Our assigned security officer is Chris Myers, who is an experienced officer with Delta Hawkeye Security. Chris will be patrolling primarily on bicycle and, during inclement weather conditions, will be in a GEM electric automobile.
Chris has already had a positive impact by assisting with the arrest of two “Taggers” while dealing with a number of “Dumpster divers” and transients. His presence on the Mile has also garnered positive comments from area residents and merchants. Clearly he is already making a difference.

Who is Delta Hawkeye Security?
Delta Hawkeye is a private security company owned by Dallas Faulkner, a retired Stockton Police sergeant. Delta Hawkeye patrols a number of private communities and shopping centers including Lincoln Center, San Joaquin Mental Health and the Spanos Park East / West homeowners association, just to name a few.
Is Chris, our security officer, armed with a gun or baton?
No. The primary purpose of private security patrol is to OBSERVE AND REPORT any suspicious or criminal activity to the Stockton Police Department.
When does Chris work?
Chris works a varying shift that covers both daylight and evening hours, five days a week.
Who do I call if there is a problem?
If you suspect any criminal activity or have any type of emergency, immediately dial 9-1-1. If you see something suspicious, you can call Chris on his cell phone and ask him to take a look.
How do we know that Chris is patrolling and doing his job?
Chris is an experienced, well regarded employee of Delta Hawkeye and was transferred to the Mile specifically to meet our needs. His patrol will be monitored by a Proxy-guard system which requires him to physically make contact at certain locations throughout the Mile. Those locations are not disclosed.
What else does Chris do on patrol?
As mentioned, his primary responsibility is to OBSERVE AND REPORT. However, if you need someone to walk you to your vehicle at night, don’t hesitate to call him on his cell (As long as he is on-duty).
Who is Chris’ supervisor in case I have a concern or compliment?
You can contact Ron Cancio at (209) 957-3333. All other concerns as it relates to the Miracle Mile Community Safety Committee can be directed to Arnold Chin at (209) 943-2446 ext. 202.
